P6 v Heriots & Dunbar

P6 v Heriots & Dunbar

Nick Mathieson2 Oct 2013 - 09:03

Dunfermline played four games (two versus Heriots and two versus Dunbar) in the glorious sunshine at Goldenacre.

We got off to a slow start but we improved as the day progressed.

In the first game, we put in plenty of effort but gave the opposition too much space and time to run through gaps. The second game saw some great rucking and tackling by both sides which led to an even game. Again it was great effort and work rate from our players. We were competing in all aspects of the game, the opposition showed us how important it was to tackle low and knock over the ball carrier. This was something we were going to work on for the next game.

Our third game (second against Dunbar) saw Dunfermline start to put together the things we’ve been practicing in training. Our defence came up in a line, we put pressure on the opposition and made our tackles. In attack we were full of running with players supporting each other all over the pitch. A great game by both sides.
The final game of the day saw two tiring sides give their all. Both Heriots and Dunfermline tried to produce strong running rugby with defences coming up to pressurise and tackle the opposition.
It was a great days rugby. The players showed that they are starting to understand and put into the game the skills they are working on in training. There were huge improvements in our defensive line, communication and our support play. The results were two draws (one with Heriots 3-3 and one with Dunbar3-3) and two defeats (one to Heriots 4-2 and one to Dunbar 5-1).
As far as the coaches are concerned the important thing from this day was that we can see improvement in all the players. There are still things to work on but the skills and patterns of play we have been working on in training are beginning to show on match day. Well done to all the players!
