Dunfermline opened proceedings brightly and spent the first ten minutes in Dalziel territory. The visitors first sally into the Dunfermline half resulted in a penalty in front of the posts. They spurned three points in favour of a quick tap but the home defence held out. Dunfermline returned to the attack and a break by McColl on half way freed Daly who scampered in from 35 metres. McNeish added the conversion. A lengthy spell of pressure from Dalziel went unrewarded as the home defence held firm and relieved their lines with a penalty to touch. The Dunfermline backs gained ground with a couple of good runs and this was rewarded when Eadie drove off the tail of a line out on 5 metres winning a penalty which was quickly taken to give Buchan the second try of the afternoon. McNeish converted.
The restart allowed Dunfermline to regain possession and Harris broke to release Daly who was held up short. The resultant ruck saw the forwards barrel over for number three. The second half continued in similar vein with a further break by Harris in midfield which he finished close to the posts. McNeish converted. A period of scrappy play ensued punctuated by a mazy run from Swankie, the loose ball kicked through by Short was gathered by Daly who crossed for his second try. Swankie added his name to the score sheet after McNeish fielded a 22 drop out and fed Swankie who dashed over.
With the result in no doubt the home side may have relaxed slightly to allow Dalziel space out wide to work two late tries, the second of which was converted.
