From the start 10 minutes of Dunfermline's sustained pressure led to Greg Valentine crashing through for his first of four tries which was converted by Gregor McNeish.Play continued with the ball being recycled quickly after every breakdown and soon Dunfermline scored their second try when captain Scott Swankie switched play with a long pass to Graeme Lowe who drew his defender before popping the ball to Josh Harris to run in an easy score.
Solid defence and strong, rapid attacking by Dunfermline continued until the 39th minute when a penalty was awarded to Dunfermline in front of Linlithgow's posts. The West Fifers elected to kick for touch and from the resulting lineout, Valentine crashed over for his second try and gave Dunfermline a 17-0 lead at half-time.
Linlithgow started the second half with a period of possession but Dunfermline's superior fitness and pressure began to tell with centre Scott Gracie scoring two tries in quick succession. Dunfermline began to counter attack with devastating effect with Swankie, McNeish and Colin Eadie repeatedly finding the gaps before off loading to supporting players. Further tries from Graeme Lowe, Valentine (2), Thomas Murray and Warren Daley, four of which were converted by McNeish, rounded off a fairly comprehensive victory.
Head coach Gavin Blackburn was delighted with how his team have started their league campaign. He said, "We have continued on from a very successful pre-season and we are reaping the benefits of our extensive fitness programme." He continued, "I feel with the signing of Colin Eadie from Stirling County and Tommy McColl from Boroughmuir we have just about got the right blend of youth and experience. Our free-flowing game is to be encouraged but sterner tests lie ahead starting with the visit of Kilmarnock RFC this Saturday."
Saturday's home fixture against Kilmarnock RFC kicks off at 3pm at McKane with Dunfermline's second XV hosting Selkirk A.
