Dunfermline kicked off on a very wet pitch. Early sparring appeared to give Livingston the upper hand with only poor handling by the home side allowing Dunfermline to keep their line intact.

Several kicks to the corner by Livingston’s stand off Glen Mushet kept the visitors defence busy until a driving run by Warren Daley and a clearance to the 22 metre line relieved the pressure. Encouraged by this Dunfermline took play deep into Livingston territory and were rewarded with a penalty, converted by Gregor McNeish. Despite this Livingston sought to belie their position at the foot of the league by pressing play into the Dunfermline half. Only desperate clearances kept them at bay until inevitably Dunfermline were penalised at a scrum on 22metres giving Dean Edwards the chance to level the score. Further loose play gave Livingston the initiative allowing Edwards to nose them in front with his second penalty. This may have been the spur Dunfermline needed. The forwards won good ball in midfield driving forward to release McNeish who with deft hands sent Scott Swankie on a mazy run to cross under the posts. McNeish followed up with the conversion. Shortly after Scott Gracie fielded a loose kick and scampered in to increase the lead with an unconverted try.

As the second half started Livingston forced their way up-field to gain a third penalty converted by Edwards. Dunfermline gradually gained the initiative and a short line out throw to James Lawrie saw him power his way through three tackles to drive over wide on the right. The conversion was wide of the mark. Dunfermline began to dominate possession and a series of driving rucks resulted in Sky Laurie crossing close to the posts to gain a bonus point for the fourth try. McNeish converted. This was quickly followed as driving play by Lawrie gave quick ball to Daley coming in off the wing to score. McNeish added the two points. The visitors by now disregarded the underfoot conditions moving the ball at every opportunity, culminating in further a series of rucks allowing James Lawrie to double his try count, converted by McNeish. As Dunfermline pressed the home team they found it difficult to clear their lines and a wild clearance gave Daley a free run to feed James Lawrie to score his third try, converted by Martin Scade who deputised for McNeish. Livingston’s woes were compounded further a a good break out with strong running from Andy Brown allowed him and Colin Eadie to combine releasing Daley for the final score.

This Saturday, 15th October Dunfermline entertain Hawick YM at McKane Park, KO 3.00pm
