Gradually the big RHC pack muscled their way into the game and Dunfermline did well through out the first half to resist their efforts. Despite living of scraps of possession Dunfermline moved the ball when the opportunity arose and forced a line out on the home 22 metre line. A promising attack from clean line out ball saw Graeme Low bundled out just short. RHC appeared to be winning the loose battle as their powerful forwards ran at the heart of the Dunfermline defence. Dunfermline were caught offside in their 22 but the penalty was struck wide. Returning to attack Dunfermline won a penalty on 22 metres which McNeish also pushed just wide. A huge McNeish kick was fielded by RHC full back Matt Hicks whose clearance was charged down producing another attacking line out but the moment passed. Tight driving play by RHC threatened to break visitors defence. However Dunfermline won the ball back and Scott Swankie kicked to the corner. Winning a short line out ball it was moved quickly along the back line with Josh Harris entering from the opposite wing, bundled into touch just short. RHC came back on the attack but Dunfermline broke out of their 22 metre line with a delicate chip from McNeish gathered by Scott Gracie who was held short and the ball cleared for a 5 metre line out to Dunfermline. A catch and drive put RHC on the back foot and good sleight of hand by McNeish allowed Gracie to dive in under the posts. McNeish converted. Dunfermline immediately shot themselves in the foot by failing to clear their lines from the restart as a mix up resulted in a penalty to the home side converted by Jon Williams.
RHC began the second half strongly winning a line out on 5 metres. In the following ruck Dunfermline were penalised for going off their feet in the ruck. Williams kicked the three points to narrow the gap to a single point. A good break out for the visitors by Low to half way came to nought. Dunfermline however continued to try and play open rugby and stepped up the pace of the game. Open play by the visitors following a quickly taken mark by Graham Hall gained ground, winning the ruck on RHC 22 metres McNeish cross kicked for Harris who was just held out. RHC won the resultant scrum but James Lawrie scragged the RHC scrum half and the ball was moved quickly to Swankie who dived over under the posts. McNeish converted. Gaining the upper hand Dunfermline ran the ball at every opportunity and from the restart surged back to the RHC goal line winning a penalty which McNeish easily converted. Returning to the offensive the Dunfermline backs sought to gain territory and threatened to run free. Their efforts were rightly rewarded when a surging run by Warren Daley followed by quick ruck ball allowed McNeish to chip through for Greg Valentine to pounce over the line wide on the right. RHC strived to gain consolation from a score but the visitors defence held firm.
