Initial credits went to the visitors as they forced a scrum on half way and caught Dunfermline offside. Kicking with the wind they found good field position on the Dunfermline 22 metre line. The home side cleared this threat but Linlithgow again pressed forward retaining possession well only to concede a penalty in a promising position. Dunfermline kicked to touch and with their first sortie into the visitors half knocked on in the 22 metre area. The two packs each tried to out muscle the other but neither gained the upper hand. However Dunfermline broke the deadlock with a run from the base of a scrum by Colin Eadie who fed Scott Gracie allowing him to touch down under the posts. Scott Swankie converted. Linlithgow were stung into action and some good drives by the forwards with Ross Martin to the fore put the home defence under some strain but held firm.
Linlithgow lifted their game early in the second half and good runs by winger Tye Watson forced the home defence to work hard. These attacks were rewarded when Dunfermline conceded successive penalties close in, which were taken quickly by Linlithgow in an attempt to secure tries, but they were unable to convert the pressure into points. In fact the next scoring opportunity fell to Dunfermline, as Josh Harris broke free from the home 22 only to be held up 5 metres short. A dive and slide into the corner may well have resulted in a try. The next period of play became bogged down in midfield with neither side able to take control. The Linlithgow side appeared to have a simple game plan by keeping the ball close to the forwards but their efforts were kept in check as the elements contributed to the untidy play. Dunfermline then put a string of rucks and handling together to win a penalty close to the posts. Swankie eased the kick over to give the home side a more comfortable margin. Returning to the attack a break by Eadie on half was carried on by Martin Scade who was hauled down by desperate defence. Linlithgow were clearly keen to get on the scoreboard and ran the ball from a penalty awarded after a high tackle. Confusion in their midfield allowed Swankie to intercept on 30 metres and run in under the posts. He added the two points to his try himself as the referee blew the final whistle.
This Saturday Dunfermline travel to play Kilmarnock at Bellsland KO 2.00pm
