Dunfermline kicked off and with early pressure won a penalty on 30 metres converted by Gregor McNeish. Both packs appeared evenly matched but Dunfermline looked more enterprising as they frequently moved the ball wide looking for gaps in the home defence. Strathmore weathered the pressure however and clawed their way into Dunfermline territory winning a penalty on 22 metres converted by Stewart Ross. Dunfermline continued to show willingness to run the ball but were unable to make this tell. Neither side held the upper hand till Strathmore won a scrum against the head and a period of sustained pressure secured a penalty for Stewart Ross to stroke over. This was followed by Strathmore using driving forward play to gain ground. An untidy passage of play saw a loose kick bounce kindly for Fraser McKay to gather and scamper in. The try was converted by Stewart Ross. This stung Dunfermline into responding and the forwards secured good possession giving Gregor McNeish the chance to hit a deft kick gathered by Graeme Low to cross wide on the left. McNeish added the two points with a difficult kick.
Dunfermline began the second half in spirited fashion using the ball well but unable to find openings in a determined home defence until a chip through by Scott Gracie was gathered by Graeme Low for his second try. McNeish converted. At the restart Dunfermline were penalised for offside giving Stewart Ross the opportunity to add three more points to the home tally. With one point separating the teams the forward exchanges increased in intensity and Dunfermline weathered a period of sustained pressure which was relieved by a good McNeish clearance. Strathmore conceded a penalty on 35 metres as they attempted to move up field which McNeish duly converted. At a scrum from the restart Dunfermline penalised for a squint feed immediately allowed Strathmore three points through the boot of Stewart Ross. This was followed quickly with another Ross penalty to put the home side noses just in front. Dunfermline then played some good possession rugby and drove their way within striking distance for McNeish to drop a goal to put Dunfermline back in front. Dunfermline pressed again to increase their lead forcing Strathmore to concede a late tackle penalty which McNeish converted from in front of the posts to complete the scoring.
