An early Orkney penalty opportunity was pushed narrowly wide by J Linklater. The visitors maintained possession and pressure but stout Dunfermline defence kept them for converting opportunities into points. Gradually working their way into the game a Dunfermline sortie was rewarded with a penalty on 22 metres converted by Gregor McNeish. Orkney responded by driving in to home territory winning a penalty which again Linklater pushed wide. Neither side looked able to secure the upper hand as the first half drew to a close.
Dunfermline began the second period brightly, moving the ball well through the backs. A McNeish break from deep saw the ball worked to Maurice Pinkerton on half way, he broke the tackle and surged over the line under the posts. McNeish converted. As Orkney attempted to respond Dunfermline stole possession and drove close to the visitors line. The ball was moved well with Fraser Cowe to the fore before Neil Donald finished the move. McNeish converted the try. Dunfermline had their tails up and a crashing run by Lliam Quarm was held out just short. Orkney appeared to have weathered the storm but a poor clearance was gathered by Cowe who strode over. McNeish added the conversion. A quick Dunfermline line out involving Colin Stewart and Graeme McLaren gained good ground allowing Scott Morman to score. Graeme Low converted. Orkney worked their way into Dunfermline territory releasing S Groat to cross for a try converted by J Linklater. The visitors gained heart from this and several forward drives took them close without any reward. Good home defence kept them at bay. A probing kick by Scott Gracie gave Dunfermline a line out 5 meters out. Winning the throw Dunfermline moved the ball wide to Liam Arbuthnott who crossed wide on the right. McNeish added the two points. With the game and the bonus point secured the home side appeared to relax a little too much allowing Orkney the final say with a try from K Robb converted by S Rendall.
