Ellon started well retaining possession and applying pressure.

A line out close in was won and hooker Ally Edwards drove over. Conversion missed. Dunfermline responded well and were held out in the left corner by stern defence. They continued to apply pressure and winning a scrum close in the home forwards recycled the ball well for Gregor McNeish to cross close to the posts. He added the two points to his try. Ellon concentrated on direct driving play but were unable to create any chinks in the home defence. This effort led to Dunfermline conceding a series of penalties in the loose thereby giving the initiative to Ellon. Ellon fought hard to convert possession into points and were forced into touch on 5 metres. Dunfermline cleared but immediately surrendered advantage by conceding a penalty. Jonathan Dobson’s kick was pushed wide but a loose Dunfermline clearance was fielded by Andrew Ovenstone who drifted through to touch down under the posts. Dobson converted. Dunfermline responded with good driving forward play switching movement from left to right where Murray Callan touched down. McNeish converted.
Ellon began the second half well with Dunfermline continuing to see the penalty count mount against them. A sortie into Ellon territory with Callan, Liam Arbuthnott and McNeish to the fore provided encouragement as Giles Boland drove over. McNeish added the two points. Dunfermline returned to the attack and forced a line out on 5 metres, Ellon cleared however they were penalised in the resultant ruck for McNeish to step up and kick the penalty. A period of untidy play followed with both sides making mistakes or mishandling at critical times. McNeish employed the boot to gain territory and keep the visitors on the back foot. Scoring was completed from a poor kick option from Ellon fielded by McNeish who fed Derek O’Riordan on half way. O’Riordan escaped the clutches of despairing tacklers as he surged over the line under the posts for the bonus point try. McNeish converted.

This Saturday Dunfermline travel to Dundee to play Morgan KO 3.00pm
