Dunfermline 36 Mackie 19

Dunfermline began with good enterprising open play in contrast to last week at Morgan. Scoring opened as Dunfermline forced a line out on 5 metres, a hold and drive released the ball to Gregor McNeish who fed Scott Gracie to go in under the posts. McNeish converted. A Gracie thrust from the restart took play to half way and the ball was recycled to McNeish who danced through and outstripped the defence. McNeish converted his try. Dunfermline dominated the loose at this point and securing another line out close in Iain Spence was driven over. The conversion narrowly missed. Mackie responded well with a period of good possession rugby but the home defence stood firm before clearing the danger. Indeed the home side worked their way back to the Mackie 22 and good interplay between backs and forwards from a line out allowed Murray Callan to give the scoring pass to Giles Boland. McNeish added the two points. Mackie were stung into a response and after being held up over the Dunfermline line were awarded a penalty try as the home side collapsed the scrum to prevent being driven over the try line. Michael Levack converted.
Mackie began the second half brightly and the home side conceded a series of penalties allowing Mackie to apply some concerted pressure. A line out close in gave the visitors the opportunity to drive over with Matthew Flynn claiming the unconverted try. Dunfermline responded with a McNeish penalty from 35 metres. Mackie however were having the better of the forward exchanges by this time and following a further series of infringements Michael Levack crossed for a try which he converted. The last word however went to the home side, a McNeish touch kick took them to 5 metres. The ball secured from the line out was worked to Ian Barrett who made space before feeding Spence to cross under the posts. McNeish made no mistake with the conversion
This Saturday Dunfermline travel to St Andrews University KO 2.00pm
