Dunfermline opened brightly in dreadful weather conditions with good interplay between forwards and backs. An early probe by Scott Gracie was finished by Danny Jennings who drove over. Gregor McNeish converted. The game was interspersed with numerous errors due to the conditions but Dunfermline secured a 5 metre line out and with a hold and drive Jennings scored his second of the afternoon. McNeish converted. Dunfermline dominated possession and Gracie pounced on a loose ball on the Varsity 22 metre line winning a penalty. McNeish stroked the ball over for three points. Attacking from the restart Ryan Benson launched himself from the Dunfermline 22 metres gaining ground deep into Varsity territory before play was switched to Liam Arbuthnott who crossed in the right corner. The conversion against the wind went wide. A further Dunfermline assault with good handling between forwards and back was finished by Lliam Quarm. Dunfermline pressed the home defence from the restart and McNeish charged down a clearance from 22 meters following up quickly to touch down. The conversion attempt rebounded off the upright.
With the wind behind them Dunfermline began the second half back on the offensive. Ian Barrett drove play up before switching to Benson on the left wing. McNeish missed the conversion. Jonny Smart then added a try fielding a loose kick on half way before brushing off the defence for an unconverted try. Benson added to his tally with a try from a scrum against the head converted by McNeish. Dunfermline refused to ease off and tries by Gracie (2), Craig McKenzie and McNeish with three McNeish conversions completed the scoring.
